EASTER in Auvergne
We have just spent a lovely week at Les Chouettes, over the Easter holidays. We were a party of eight, ranging in age from 9 to 78, plus one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Although the main gîte was large enough for us all, we rented both of them as we didn't want a noisy family week to disturb someone else trying to have a peaceful country holiday!
The gites were both very comfortable and extremely well equipped with large bedrooms with plenty of storage and comfortable beds. The living area in the main gite comprised a very large sitting room with a wood burner plus an open plan kitchen/dining room with an enormous dining table and every kitchen gadget one could wish for.
Outside, the grounds are extensive and with plenty of activities for the children. There are goalposts on an open area in the orchard, very good quality table tennis table and many other games including boules and skittles. There are outside eating tables and chairs, picnic tables and several loungers with cushions.
Patrick and Martine were very friendly and welcoming and even lent us mountain bikes. There is a bar/restaurant in the village (a two minute walk) where the children and dog were made welcome. Meals are only available at lunchtime and there isn't any choice but if you enquire about the main course the day before you may find he will do something g else for the children. On "fish Friday" he very kindly cooked the children steak haché.
It was a very happy stay and we would certainly go back.
